Skerries Surgery has a large medical and administration team working together to offer a full range of services. We are also a registered GP training practice. The team is made up as follows:
Dr. Seamus K Mulholland
MB, BcH, DCH, D.Obst, LMCC, MICGP., M.Med.Sc
Dr. Mulholland qualified in UCC in 1979. He practiced for a number of years in his home county Derry before moving to Canada in 1988. On his return to Ireland in 1990 he set up the Surgery together with his wife Rhona, Practice Manager. As Skerries has grown over the last decade, so too has the Surgery expanded to the thriving practice it is today. The Surgery is a large teaching practice affiliated to UCD. Dr. Mulholland is a Trainer with The Dublin Mid-Leinster(UCD) GP Specialist Training Scheme. Dr. Mulholland is widely experienced in Emergency Care, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Osteoporsis, Family Planning, Minor Surgery and General Medicine.To relax, Dr. Mulholland enjoys long distance running. He is also a keen golfer, playing in Skerries and the Algarve when time allows.
Dr. Imelda Hackett
MB Bch, BAO., MRCPI., MICGP., DRCOG., DCH.
Dr Hackett qualified from UCD in 2007, thereafter she completed specialist traning in General Internal Medicine at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, before completing vocational training on the HSE DML Training Programme in General Practice, professionally obtaining membership of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland and the Irish College of General Practitioners respectively.
She has a specialist interest in Women’s Health and Paediatrics, she is a certified ICGP contraceptive and LARC tutor, and a certified smear taker.
Dr Hackett has a keen interest in undergraduate clinical education, within the Practice and UCD, recently obtaining a certificate in Clinical Education with distinction from Queen’s Unversity Belfast.
Dr Hackett is a mother of one, and is an avid follower of Gaelic Football – continuing to support her maiden County Tyrone.
Dr. Karen O Neill
MB Bch, BAO., DRCOG.
Dr Karen o Neill qualified from UCD in 2010, thereafter she completed specialist traning in General Internal Medicine at the Limerick University Hospital and St Vincents Hospital Dublin. She then Trained on the UCG GP Traniners scheme from 2011- 2015.
She practiced as a registrar in The Surgery from 2014-2015. After completeing the traning scheme Dr O Neill continued to work as a GP.
She has a specialist interest in Women’s Health receiving DRCOG Diploma and certificates in long acting revesible contraceptives (Minera & Implanon), and Student health.,
Nurse Janet worked in London for 10 years before returning to Ireland. She worked in a variety of services, including Nursing home care and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda. While in Our Lady of Lourdes she worked as a Fracture Liaison Nurse, from this she developed a special interest in Osteoporosis.
Nurse Janet joined The Surgery in July 2014. Since joining the Practice she has completed a number of courses including Cervical check and Diabetic care. She enjoys family life and gardening including growing her own fruit and vegetables.
Eamonn McElwee Counsellor
BA, MA, MPS, H.Dip.Ed, MIACP, MIITD
Eamonn McElwee is an accredited counsellor and accredited counselling supervisor. He has been counselling individuals and couples at the Surgery since 1997. He trained in counselling in the US and was awarded Masters degrees with First Class Honours from Fordham University, New York and Loyola University, Chicago.
Eamonn was formerly Head of Training for Accord Marriage Counselling Service, and Director of Training in the Dundalk Counselling Centre. In addition to his work at the Surgery, he lectures on groupwork and counselling at Trinity College and at CITC, Churchtown.
Emma Quirke Sports Rehabilitator
Emma Quirke qualified from Glasgow in 1998 with a BSc. in Sports Science and Physiology and went on to study Sports Rehabilitation in St. Mary’s College in Twickenham where she qualified in 2002. She has been working at Surgery since then with individuals from both sporting and non-sporting backgrounds.
Emma works with many teams in the locality including Skerries RFC, Boyne RFC, runners, triathletes, and Meath Gaelic football teams. Emma has also worked with Stamullen MD Cycling Club over the past number of years on the RAS, the famous bike race around Ireland. She also travelled with the Irish Cycling Team to the World Championship in 2004 to Verona. Emma is herself very involved in sport, having taken part in 3 Marathons and 2 Iron Man competitions in the last two years. Emma’s services include the full range of sports injuries rehabilitation, sports massage, general physio and also in the fitting and supplying of orthotics.
Chiropodist, BA, MA, MPS, H.Dip.Ed, MIACP, MIITD
Maria qualified with a BSc in Podiatry from Edinburgh. She is currently studying at Ulster University for her Mater of Science (MSc) in preservation of the lower limb.
Maria works between her city centre practice and Skerries Surgery, where she sits every Friday. She also accommodates home visits in Skerries and Donabate. She looks after all types of foot ailments as well as biomechanics and diabetes. www.citycentrechiropody.com
Gabriel Phelan FdSc Aud provides a hearing service every Saturday by appointment. Gabriel obtained his qualifications in Hearing Aid Audiology from Oxford Brookes University in the UK. This enables him to test hearing levels, prescribe and dispense hearing aids. He is a member of ISHAA, the governing body for hearing aid dispensers in Ireland. Gabriel is also qualified to remove ear wax following his training in this area at Aston University, Birmingham, UK. Gabriel also holds qualifications in electronics and instrumentation and has worked with amplification systems for over 30 years.
Practice Manager Rhona Mulholland heads the administration team assisted by Deputy Practice Manager Emma Louise Mullen. Our receptionists are Emma, Colette and Anne.
